He's one of those moments where a mother walks up to you onstage and asks if her son can play a song to the crowd, you smile and say sure - "here you go son - careful its heavy".
Then you step back and proceed to experience a public prostate exam for the rest of the night...

Awesome groove - at ten years old I was still trying to figure which Teenage Ninja Turtle I was gonna take to the sandpit that day.....

I have seen him on the Tube many a times. He has kammed with the likes of Marcus Miller, so he must be good.

EDIT: Here he is with the man himself, Marcus Miller.

That little boy is already a very good bassist, and he will be great by the time he is 18 if he sticks with it. He is a cute little kid too. I am going to show that clip to my daughters to get them to want to play more.

BTW, as a former Fender Jazz Deluxe owner, the tone that Brandon gets out of it is further proof that active Fenders are fine basses.

Seriously. I emailed him since he lived in Michigan and we are both huge MM fans and he replied back with a sincere positive attitude. This kid is going places for sure.

After watching a few more Brandon Rose videos, my strongest impression is that his parents have really supported his interest in the bass to best of their ability. They have exposed him to lots of music, they have taken him to trade shows, and have bought him excellent gear.

That said, Brandon is a very good player. I don't think he is a genius, but he is a very young child, and he might just find a really brilliant and unique voice on the bass if he keeps playing.

Frankly, I could see him continuing and being an excellent bassist by the time he is in his teens, but I could imagine that he might want to get into other things as he matures.

Either way, I think he will be fine with such a supportive family.

About 4 years ago, Brandon and his dad came into a music store where I was teaching. I came down to see this six or seven year old kid playing Continuum. We had a nice conversation about basses and music. Quite an afternoon!
