Brown Eyed Girl: Who recorded the original bass part?

I'm listening with fresh ears...by golly I'd say it sounds like Carol Kaye.

Anyone agree? It's a picked part too, which really only comes out in the break down. Such a good tone!

According to Wikipedia, it's Russ Savakus.

Listen closely -- the articulation is much, much different than a typical Carol Kaye bass line: Carol uses a pick, flatwounds, and foam to damp the sustain for a very "clean" dark tone.

The intonation of Russ Savakus is broader with more sustain.

Granted, Kaye is funkier on most of the tracks I recall. Perhaps they had some gear in common, studios, etc.
