He is very good. I stumbled on a PBS Soundstage performance by Macy Gray - not my type of music, but I had to find out who the bass player was.

I think he's done stuff with Justin Timberlake as well. Great player.

Normally I wouldn't have watched much of that, but the bass was so good and out front soundwise it was very enjoyable. He was always doing something tasteful and interesting without overplaying or sounding busy.

He is a great player for sure. I saw a concert on cable and he played a vintage jazz, vintage P, and had an Ampeg vintage rig that sounded great. Just a solid groove player, nothing fancy but very good.

I just caught the PBS Soundstage performance the other night. Bass players was killing it. I really enjoyed listening to him play. He had some great lines.

To me, Caleb Speir is what good bass playing is all about. He plays the bass like a bass...like a bass being played by a very good bass player. I checked pbs.org to see if that performance was for sale, but it isn't listed.
