Can I Get A Witness?

When I first started playing bass, I asked around to see who the best everyone considers is.
Among the names were bassists that I idolize now (and idolized then without even knowing it.)
You might recognize the names:
Victor Wooten
Flea
Jaco Pastorius.
But then a name I kept hearing consistently started to eat at my.
Les Claypool.
Perhaps I'm missing something but he just annoys me. While he may be one of the smartest people ever but all he ever does is crazy pieces that irritate.
Les Claypool is the Buckethead of bass guitar.
Care to enlighten me?

That's the point. Most of his stuff is about being weird. If you don't like crazy weird stuff, you won't like his music.

If he annoys you then you don`t understand his music. Primus is one of my favorite bands because they can write some of the most out there stuff that would normally sound bad(and to some it still does!) and yet somehow make it sound amazing. He`s a real innovator on the bass if you ask most people who like him. He does his own thing and brings the bass to the front of the band which is a very rare treat in music these days.
