Can someone help me find a youtube of Entwistle playing a fender?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm doing a video project on how Fender Instruments changed the music industry and I'm going to include a scene w/ John Entwistle playing a fender bass- I could only find one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0XknwXqLDo
and it only gives you about a 3 second shot of John with his p-bass.

All help is appreciated and thanks!

There must be some videos out there. I have his Bass Culture book and he has an extensive collection of Fenders. I think he also mentions that he used his Frankenbass on "Live at Leeds". I should note that I'm not a huge fan of The Ox, but someone bought me the book as a birthday present and it really is astounding!

And wow, if this is Mr Dan Lakin here (the real deal), welcome to the forums! PM a moderator about your presence here and sort out your "endorsing artist/affiliated with" title. This is standard fare for anyone with commercial connections at TB.

There are a few great early clips on the clips compilation called 'Who's Better Who's Best'.

I have it on video but i've seen it in DVD format. Some fabulous footage and decent sound quality.

John used a P on Live At Leeds, there are some stills at about 0:33 - 0:40 with a P and a J, but probably not what you're looking for though.

EDIT Ah ha! A little more searching came up with some actual footage! The Sparks at Woodstock and My Generation at The Marquee 1967 videos have clear pictures of JE using a P. The Who website is a very good source of info indeed.

Wow thanks to everyone who contributed- that should be plenty of footage to work with! Once the documentary is all finished and polished up I can post it up on here. THanks again!

Go to Best Buy and get the the Who at Isle Of Wight 1970 DVD.
He used p-bass/HIWATTs for most of the 1960's and exclusively through 1969/1970. Woodstock was also p-bass/HIWATTs (same period).
At some time in the early 1970's (Who's Next) he switched to Gibson Thunderbirds and after that (Quadrophenia) he started using his hybrid "Fenderbirds".

Other than DVDs, check www.thewho.net for more info too.

off topic:
I wish I could get my hands on that Lakland "Fenderbird" prototype. Bummer that project was canned.
Alas, I'm left with hacking up an Epi Thunderbird.
