I wrote a short article on Carl Radle's style that was recently published in Bass Musician Magazine. The musical examples are formatted kind of oddly, but it was cool of them to publish it. A Lesson in Carl Radle's Style | Bass Musician Magazine [the face of bass] |

I, for one, would love for my playing/contribution to be in such a way. As it is...I will probably be spoken of as "He seemed to aspire to mediocrity."

Honestly, I have been mesmerized by Carl Radle's bass lines for decades now. His discography can be seen at CarlRadle.com and upon viewing it myself I immediately felt the man deserves to be in the Sideman Wing of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I have also had the privilege of meeting with his lifelong friends from our mutual hometown of Tulsa. To hear them state overwhelmingly what an unassuming and nice person he was has me admiring him both as a musician and as a person.
If you get time, run a search on TB and you will see a couple of his basses that I have written about. A 1965 Fender sunburst P bass and his '68 Fender modified "Tele-P bass".
If you've never heard it, next time you get a chance listen to his tracks on Derek & the Dominos':
Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad
Also, try:
Have You Ever Loved A Woman
Keep On Growing
Anyday
I Looked Away
Let It Rain
and:
Little Wing (Live at the Fillmore version)
Thanks again !!

Carl Radle was one of the players that we all listened to as the young turks back in the day. It's a good reminder that less is more and that (tantric) repetitive bass lines work!
