| I think he has a pretty simple setup - Fender Jazz into an Ampeg SVT-Cl and 8x10 cab. I don't think he regularly uses effects/pedals, although his studio recordings might be compressed a little. He has a very average tone - not too bright, especially because he plays with a pick, but not muffled enough to lose definition. I really love his lines and his tone is perfect for Interpol, in my opinion.
Technique-wise, though, it sounds like he picks closer to the bridge a lot of the time. If you play fingerstyle, that's fine, too, but try to pluck closer to the bridge. It gives you more of a nasally tone, and sounds great when playing Carlos-like octave runs. |
