Anyone familiar with this band? I saw them last night, opening for Son Volt. After about ten seconds of watching the bass player, I remembered that BP had written him up a couple of years ago. Anyway, this guy is phenomenal. Very much in the Entwistle mode. He takes the melodic lead on pretty much everything, and the band completely kicks butt. I highly recommend checking them out, live or on CD. Here's the BP article:

oh yeah

Yep, they kick ass...

Stocker recorded with a reissue am vint. series pbass and a Fender Musicmaster Bass Amp for the Moxie Bravo album a couple of years ago...I love the bass tone on that recording.

Their latest recording is Get the Guests. It's good too. They do their own thing - with some Who influence...

The High Strung are the guys that do the library tours across the country and ditched their touring van at the rock and roll hall of fame on the front steps...

BP just wrote him up again in the most recent issue. I've gotta get their new album from iTunes.

Get the Guests is a great album. Rimbaud/Rambo is my favorite song right now.

Not really familiar with the band but I read the article this morning on BP... And he mentioned a great approach to writing lines that I am going to start trying.

He said that when their singer/guitarist has a new song, he listens to the music and doesn't ask for the chords - that way he doesn't get stuck playing roots and it forces him to write more melodic basslines (around what he hears instead of what is written). That's a great idea, IMO.
