I want to know more about this amazing bassist. I know that he played with Shirley Horn for three decades and that died a few years ago.
do you know other recordings apart the Shirley Horn stuff?
do you know how he recorded the bass (line into a DI or pre or mic in front the speaker)?
do you know what gear he used (bass, STRINGS, ampli...)?

I agree - great player, great tone. Would also love to know some more about how he got that dark sound

I love the way he tends to just play roots rather than root five.

Looks like a Fender Jazz - plays over the neck on the blues.
