Charlie Hayward

Have any of you heard the newly released Charlie Daniels Band Volunteer Jam 1975 DVD yet? It is unbelievable! The best $9 I ever spent a WalMart! Charlie Hayward is a GREAT player. This DVD blew my mind. Very good quality with lots of closeups on Charlie with his '51ish P with a split coil pickup. The Marshall Tucker band is there as well and features a bass solo from their bassist with an early 70's white P. It isn't just country jams either...Blues, jazzy stuff, ect with sax's, fiddle, harmonica, Paul Hornsby and another musician on organs and some great lead guitar from Charlie Daniels. GREAT stuff from 1975. My favorite is 'No place left to go"...10+ minute allman type jam with 2 sax solos and incredible bass playing. Definitely check this out if you are into the '70's southern rock jam stuff (allman like stuff). Dickey Betts is also on this for a couple jams. This band IMO is right up there with the early Allman Bros.... and this is saying ALOT! Lots of sweet Les Paul, P-Bass, and B-3 tones on this DVD.

I remember seeing Charlie Hayward in the 70's and being blown away, it's great he still is doing it. It's so cool on that DVD to see the two late great Caldwell brothers smokin' on their instruments with their thumbs.*

*not slap.

Had to resurrect this thread in honor to Mr. Hayward, an incredible bass player. The Volunteer Jam '75 DVD is playing here right now and I am again enjoying it. Interesting '51 style P he is playing equipped with split coil pups. Sounds good and growly. Of course Charlie's tone is in his fingers.

I saw the CDB play live several times in the late 70's/early 80's and probably should catch a CDB show when they come around, as Charlie Hayward is still the bass player for them. I believe he plays a Lakland bass now and wonder how his tone now compares to 30 years ago with the Fender?
