Chi Cheng of Deftones

I gotta say, I just started listening to the album Saturday Night Wrists, and I just love Chi Cheng. His bass lines just have a certain warmth and simplicity to them. His bass lines are simple but he does these little things that just transform it into something else. If you haven't heard Chi Cheng or Deftones before, here are a few samples:

Chi Cheng was nothing if not an atypical example of a bass player in what had been called the Nu Metal scene. I got the chance to see him with the Deftones in Miami a little over 10 years ago and it was a great show. And Chi had an awesome groove.

Unfortunately, Chi was not featured on the most recent Deftones album. He suffered a serious brain injury in a car accident a few years ago. To this day he has not fully recovered and has not been able to rejoin the band.

In the meantime, please take the time to check out Deftones - Chi Cheng "One Love For Chi" OFFICIAL Fundraiser. The website is dedicated to raising funds for Chi's continued treatment. Some of us may think of people like Chi Cheng as "rock stars", but when a tragedy like this strikes the playing field is levelled rather quickly. And when the medical bills start to mount, even the money of a "rock star" may not be enough to deal with the medical challenges.

One love for Chi.

Maybe this is an older thread, but regardless... I just wanted to fully agree with OP. I love Chi's sound and lines, this is something that really defines : Beauty in Simplicity.

My positive vibe goes out to Chi.
