Love him...

But this has been discussed to death. Half the people here think hi is played out, and half like him and his style....

Pretty good bassist. He seems to always stay in the pocket and seems like a very down to earth guy. Also, most of his bass lines are not too technically challenging and are still really fun to play.

also, the insane amount of effects pedals he uses makes me want to experiment more and more with them

He is one of the few rock bassists in today's music that is doing something interesting with the instrument that will make kids choose to play bass. Regardless of how one feels about the band (I like Muse personally), I see this as a good thing.

He has definitely inspired some effects GAS in me, but given the amount of posts in the Effects forum about him, I think I am hardly alone in that aspect.

my only oppinion about him is that he gets talked about too much. seems like a fine player, though.

Solid in teh pocket player, Chris and the drummer (don't know his name) profvide a stable platform for Matt to really give it all vocally and guitarilly. His lines are interesting too and quite upfront in the mix so it gets my thumbs up. Whenever my band want me to put in an overdriven section I tend to try and draw influence from Muse.

Meh, don't much care for him, one way or the other.
