Christian Band - Sons of Korah

Sons of Korah played a concert at our church last night. They're EXCELLENT! An all acoustic group, most of their music is based around the psalms...They're all magnificent musicians and really great folks.

Mike "Spike", the bassist, is an awesome bassist and a really nice guy. He plays a 5-string Godin fretless and his playing is just amazing. Very, very musical...he's got the chops but doesn't flaunt it...

I had a chance to play his bass a little after the concert. It's really sweet. It has a completely different voice than my Carvin AC40, much more mid-focused and really deep when amplified.

Mike also uses D'Addario EXP strings...I really dig the feel of them, not at all like any coated string I've ever played before (Elixers).

For his sound, he uses a Aphex punch factory into a Sansamp into FOH.

Check out they're music, there are samples on they're website www.sonsofkorah.com

by the way, they do get to the USA fairly regularly, too

They have a very pleasing outlook on the psalms. Its a tough job to put all of that information which doesn't rhyme into the format of contemporary music.

My first original song wrote last week for my (as in "I am in it", not as in "I am the leader") new as-yet-unnamed band (first band, first song...) is from the 103rd Psalm... Nothing like those guys do... more of an upbeat praise/worship chorus thing than their stuff. I really like their sound...
