If you are actively involved in any kind of Christian music ministry, be it something as basic as playing bass on the Sunday Morning praise team at your home church, to anything as grand as being in a globally famous, globally renowned, globally touring Christian band, any style of music from adult contemporary, to the heaviest of the heavy, to the wierdest of the wierd, or anywhere in-between, so long as the lyrical content, and band mission is biblically focused, then stand up and be counted! (Literally, I will be assigning member#s)
Tell us about your ministy, about how long you've been in it, about what kind of music you do, are you more praisey, more preachy, a little of both, are your lyrics real literal, or more symbolic, more overt, or more vague. Share any pics, flix, or sound clips you have.
The bible calls us to be united as the body of Christ, and what better way for people who are a) Christian b) Bassists, and c) giving some degree (anywhere from a little bit, to everything they have) of their lives to music ministry, music to reach the lost and encourage the found, to unite than to have a club?! |

I did find a neat little tune that is fun to play though. It is very simple (good for me). It is a Hawk Nelson tune called The Show. Fun bass line to jam over. We did not play it in church but it was on one of those WOW hits CD's that I seem to be collecting.

Awesome is the Lord Most High - driving bassline, Stingray for that
One Day, Aaron Schust... love the bassline, the fretless Jazz worked perfectly on that.
We finished with Heaven - Los Lonely Boys then after dismissal jammed on it for another few minutes. It as a hoot!

last week we did:
everlasting
blessed be
God's romance
an original song
alleluia #4
i looked up
ready for the rain
yesterday's lineup:
awesome God
mercy is falling
we're gonna sing like the saved (with an extra-long intro)
another original song
love the lord your God (prolly my fav bassline to play)
and ended with a lyrics-altered version of your love keeps lifting me higher.
both services ended with people on their feet, hands in the air, some dancin' in the aisles... i praise God for the opportunity to play with these guys!!!
etech, prayers going out to ya and your group.... lots of issues going on there.
and yes, yes, congrats to us on #4!

point #1...Pleasing vs. Pleasant - God wants worship that is "pleasing" to Him...not necessarily "pleasant" and oft times, isn't "pleasant"...
work together...have patience...and do it for Him...and everything will fall into place...
be blessed... |

i grew up in a non-christian home. started playing bass when i was 12. the summer before my junior year of high school i decided it was time to die so on august 29, 1993 i was immersed into Christ. finished high school and went on to bible college. graduated bible college, met my wife, went to grad school for a year and then married my wife july 1, 2000.
fast forward a few years... i'm a 31 year old campus minister at the university of north carolina - chapel hill (go heels) and this is my 5th year there. i have two great little girls (in my avatar)... the oldest is 2yrs & 8 months and the youngest is 8 months.
i don't play in the campus ministry. we have been blessed with a great bunch of students who do a wonderful job. i do play at church though (cary christian church - cary, nc). it's somewhat contemporary with the full setup including tuba, trombone and french horn. my spector rebop sits in there nicely.
thanks for havin' me. btw, what do i need to do to get a number? just this or do i need to pm someone? |

Most praise teams have been here as near as I can tell, especially if your church is younger; mine started out as a youth group only. It wasn't easy or pleasant for a while.
God knows what He's doing, and He's placed you there for a reason. Maybe it's to help others excel, to share your experience. Maybe it's to get experience. Maybe it's a test to see if you'll stick with it. Maybe all three, or none of those. Either way, focus on Him and it'll turn out alright.
As a practical matter, start telling the other members how talented they are, how on fire for the Lord they are, and how you think it's great that they devote extra time to work as one of the leaders in your church. After a while, I'll bet you notice that some members start responding, and taking the privelage of leading worship more seriously.

2.5 years ago we had our director get fired (and we were subsequently lied to about it by our pastor, who has since left). A year without drums or bass, then I learned bass, still no drums. We have morphed out three teams.
Just this week we've learned that one team will be directing. Three weeks on, one week for one of the other teams to have a go.
This has brought out a few drama-queens and a very few with personal "issues" with the new lead team have decided to leave the church.
I say all this simply to state... turmoil can be a natural thing, and being committed and steady is tough, but necessary from the core.
We now have a great drummer, incredible percussionist, two awesome guitarists, one lead vocalist and several wonderful backing vocalists. There will be more upheaval as this all settles, especially since the new leader requires the ability to sing in key... if you want to sing
Stay committed, pray, stay humble.
then rock it.
