Where do you read that the jazz basses were rewired to two volume to tone? I thought they were just standard american jazz deluxes.

Also the pickguards arent mirror, there matt black.

I don't suppose any of you are bassists in Brisbane, Australia who have similar tendencies tone/playing-wise to Chris Wolstenholme?? He is a fantastic bassist and I want to meet some good bassists who have a similar tone and playing style..!!!!

I love the amount of misinformation in these posts...

You have 1/3 his effects listed, and you got the amplification wrong, number of cabs, no model numbers for anything...

Come on....

So, are you planning to right his mistakes, or just point them out?

Come on....

The musewiki.com site says he uses a 51 Precision on the new album, I'd like to see a picture of that.
In fact looking at a few pictures of Chris playing Jazz basses he often seems to be using just the neck pickup. Maybe he likes the sound of Precision basses but prefers the dimensions of a Jazz neck.
Nice to see him playing a headless Status. They were a fasion of the 80's but still nices basses.

I think maybe what we should be debating, is what is going on with that hair?

So far, the only Fenders seen in the studio pics and the video camera shots from Matt, are his favorite Jazz deluxe, and a natural 75RI Jazz.

Add a status 2 headless bass to his live rig, as well as a mirrored Jazz, and a mirrored 51 P bass.

He still has a blue Pedulla in his arsenal as seen on the footage from The Resistance.

He also uses a woolly mammoth fuzz pedal. And he has 4 big muffs. It was in an interview in bassplayer magazine. Oh and a line 6 filter modeler.

I dig Chris' playing and sounds as much as anyone, but hasn't the whole "what gear does Chris from Muse use?" phase become self-defeating? I mean, the dude has more money than any of us would ever dream of (despite his band singing about how the "fat cats" should have a "heart attack," but that's a different discussion) and he changes his pedal setup about ever three hours. Why do we even bother trying to duplicate or figure out his live rig, when HE doesn't even have his live rig figured out?

We can all agree that he digs the old Big Muffs and Deep Impacts. Those are pretty much the only pedals that he has had consistantly on his board for more than a month. Maybe we should just attribute his sound to those pedals and be done with it.

HI,

sorry to chime in here, could not help myself!!!!
if yr interested chris uses nearly all the same pedals that he had over 8 years ago when i started work for him. there has been a few added and 1 or 2 replaced due to breakage..his switching system is way too complex to explain. that is the big change...(it allows multiply pedal changes with one button.some will understand some wont here)( i am not about to explain). but for most part his main selection is rock solid. same amps, same speaker cabs.(b150era finished in 02).replaced the odd driver though. and plenty of valves. that black pedula is actually dark blue. i sprayed it with £4 hand spray can. it was originally the sunburst one...it still lives, you should see the state of it...
all the fenders are just fenders. active for the most part, and straight off the shelf. most scratch plates were sprayed black by me, again with your classic hand spray can.oh if you see the white fender, look real close it is not black, its a really dark purple. its hard to tell even up close. check it out....
if you notice something weird in colour just above the pick up that is where his thumb has worn through the paint....there are plenty more basses which you wont see on the road. there is a fine collection, believe me.
take care, shane
