Am I the only one who prays to St. James (Jamerson) before gigs and rehearsals?

Yeah, I'm weird.

Big JJ has always been my main man. I still say to this day even though there are players out there who are tech. better, no one, no one could groove like this man could. Bless the J Bass and bless the man who made it sing.

I think you meant P-bass.

No, but I often appeal to the Great and Mighty Duck to guide my fingers through the Valley of Depth . . .

Whenever I approach a song for the first time I always seem to ask myself either "What would James do?" or "What would Paul McCartney do?". They were both very different players, yet their playing always served the song, not the other way around. I've never heard a Jamerson bass line with a note out of place. Each one belonged there.

As an ordained minister of The First Church of Jamerson, I absolve you of your sin. Now go play "I Was Made To Love Her" note-for-note five times.

I pray for 10% of his inspiration each time I pick up the bass. I figure since I use 2 fingers, if I can get 10% of his skill, I can be 20% as good.

There are a couple of people who I look up to in an almost religious devotion. James Jamerson as a bassist and musician, and Coltrane as a man.
