I had the good fortune to see this show here in Brisbane last week. The show itself was pretty cool but the bass player was amazing. Does anyone know who has the current gig with Cirque Du Soleil? (Yes, there was a live bassist - not carrying a keyboard )
The guys tone and technique was as good as I have heard for a long time. So obviously, I'd like to know -
a) Who he is.
b) What gear he was using. The bass looked a bit like a Warrior.
And to think I just went to the show to keep my wife happy |

Flat out. You don't get to be that good without being a notable name already. I haven't heard anything about who these guys are. Anyone know? I figure they're union dudes. Most everyone else in Vegas is. |

Buddy Mohmed
I'm not sure if this is the bassist who is in Australia. Anyone know of this guy? I have been told that the entire band is US/Canada based.
I also found a picture of an unidentified player using a beautiful 5 string fretless Fodera - which would explain the quality of tone! |

When the Mrs. and I saw Varekai when it came to Dallas we were center stage right behind the board. And, we could see all the musicans all the time. There was not a Fodera to be seen. The Bassist was playing a product of Canada
Also, the bassist is a Canadian by the name of Richard Drouin

I must have been compiling info from bassists playing other shows around the world. Blame google and my lack of information filtration
Thank you very much. (And a very fine Canadian bass builder deserves my apologies)

Being a live show anything can happen, entertainer out sick or hurt, something screw up. Anyone who has done stage shows, knows what I mean. Cirque Du Soleil has wides LCD screens that the music comes up on, so they can see a couple pages at a time. The MD can edits the tunes and arrangement before the show. During the show if a change comes through he can punch it in and the whole bands charts they see are updated. I hear some other big shows are starting to use LCD music stands. |
