A classic Flea moment. IMO of course.

Probably been posted already, but I just clicked on this and laughed...

Flea demonstrates how to use a pick, except for the fact that.... well, watch.

Great bass player, and do agree the bass sounds bad on the video.

I've seen used, and used everything from pocket change, broken library or plastic cards from a wallet, to those plastic bread bag holders clips, even a folded over playing card... Although I rarely use a pick!!!

I've used a coin to pick in a pinch for practice, but would never use one live. Way too bright, IMO.

Brian May purportedly uses an English penny. I know this isn't guitard talk, but that dude is pretty good!

You know those supermarket barcode cards you can keep on your keychain? Those work pretty well in a pinch.

Did you expect a cheap entry level bass to be anything but a cheap, entry level bass?

I don't have any expectations. I've heard that Flea was dissatisfied with the fleabass, and that's why he doesn't play them. I was curious if there's any examples of him talking about it.

Squier VM & CW series. Spector Performer series. Not poor basses, at all.

If he used that bass in a show nobody would no the difference or care except bass players and I'm sure the bass sounds better in person with a decent rig and not computer speakers.

Bass sounds decent to my ears in that video. However, his playing did not.

"Chris Squire is a good bass player". Wow Flea, thanks!! That's like saying the Sistne Chapel has a nice painting on it's ceiling.

Flea's "handler" needs to remove microphones and recording devices from the area before he talks stupid. Either that or he needs to read from an approved script. More bass playing Flea and less speaking! PLEASE!

The latest Hot Water Music album, Exister, was recorded with a Flea Bass. Sounds pretty damn good on there. Jason Black hasn't been touring with it though.

I think you missed his subtlety.

I never used a coin. Sounds awful, IMO.

He complimented another player. So what if it wasn't the god-level praise that would come from some devout fanboy who'd take a bass neck up the #$^& to meet the guy? A compliment's a compliment!

I certainly hope you were not referring to me with that "fanboy" comment. Since I'm no Yes fan nor a huge fan of Squire, I'll let that one go. Although 8 out of ten bass players, Yes fans or not, would rate Squire better than just good.

I suppose a compliment from Flea is not really a compliment at all. He may be qualified to set up Squires gear.

Sepp
