Claypool's current tone is ...

Is it me, or are Claypool's latest tones (primarily w/ his fancy band) the best of his career? Here are a few clips for reference:

and..

I've seen Primus and his various side projects live for years and I just love his current tone(s).. Much better than his earlier years imo.

Much better than his old tone IMO. I've always hated the Primus bass tone (at least the couple albums I've heard).

It sounds like he's compressing the absolute hell outta his signal.. And it sounds great. I'd be curious to see his pedals, amp settings, onboard settings, etc to get such a tone.. It's certainly unique.

my favourite Les bass tone was in rhinoplasty. Not his craziest but very good and solid.... ejoyed those videos posted above though...

I think his sounds on Sailing were his best; his "new" sounds just don't exude the same amount of originality IMO.

Talent-wise he's still got it locked though.

I really like his tone during the Seas of Cheese era but I like his Tour de Fromage/Hallucino-gentics Tour tone the best. I'm not a fan of his tone when Brain was with Primus.

Antipop is my favorite Les Studio tone.... The FFB spin on Floyd's Animals is my favorite Live Les.

that said, I dig heavy compression... if he'd loose the filter for a spell, the New Les would ride on top.

Brain was fun to watch on the drums though!

IMO, Claypool's sound is pretty sweet all the way through. There are a few songs throughout the years where it's a little TOO thin and distorted, but I like 'em all.

Brain is fun to watch but I just don't like his playing. IMHO Primus is not Primus without Tim on drums.

I never realized how close Les plays to the bridge. Hmm, maybe that says something about my observational skills.

His frizzle fry tone is my favorite, but that new one is cool. What band is that?

Les Claypool and his Fancy Band

I want to know what all he has in his amp rack but I can't tell.

Pork Soda is my favorite Les tone, that album was dark as ****, and the bass was one of the main reasons. But I'm digging his new tone, it fits the hippy stuff he's doing now.

Uhm, what is wrong with sitar chick? She sounds completely disconnected from the music. I wish the sax was louder.

His new tone is less unique than the one before, it's not as thick... and he uses a lot of envelope filter. No a bad thing, but quite different from his few albums with Primus.

agree with the sax. Gabby La La (The sitarist) isn't bad in this context, but her solo stuff sucks IMO.

I thought her hair was just a little distracting as in really distracting.

I dug what the mallet player was doing.

Still sounds like Les to me! He's just seem to be running a few new effects, the his technique and the Carl Thompson still shines through all that.

I've never heard a tone from him I didn't like, but that's just me. Is that Skarek (sp?) on bari sax? Great saxophone player.
