I didn't see a Cliff Burton fan club on here, so why not start one?
To get in, you must somehow prove that you are a Cliff fan, and then I will give you your number. Put "Cliff Burton Fan Club Member #(insert number)" in your signature when you get a number.
Let me start: I bought my Rickenbacker mainly because Cliff used one (among other reasons), and I have a Misfits tattoo on my right arm. Also, I doubt you can tell me much about Cliff that I don't already know.
Pic of me with the Rick and clearly showing my tattoo:
If there is already a Cliff Burton fan club on TB, I apologize, and please link me.
EDIT: NO I DON'T HAVE THE MISFITS TATTOO JUST BECAUSE OF CLIFF! I admit that half the reason is because of Cliff, but I am also a big Misfiits fan. Too many people asked me this, so I had to clear it up.

BTW, any of you fans got a pic of him playing a Fender P?

Cliff was the main writer and arranger for metallica then......you can hear the difference when Justice came out.....
I saw metallica at the Stone in S.F. when Dave was still in the band, and then jumped on stage afterwards to shake Cliffs' hand......he shook it and graciously said thank-you. He was a passionate, excellent bass player that was doing things no one else was doing then.....his experimentation with distortion took it to an new level. If anybody had to die in that buss accident, i wish it had been that whiney bitch of a drummer that screwed it up for downloading music for all of us!
rant mode off......Cliff kicks butt......still. |

and my gear, a bit Cliff inspired:
(Mesa, Morley and E-H)
My basses, more Jason inspired but Cliff also played a Spoiler:
Sounds like: Click here (starts after 1:30)
So you could say I'm a Cliff Burton fan! :-)
Though this gear may be inspired by my idols, I must say it works damn well for me (not only for my Metallica tribute thing) |

Did you get that tattoo because you are a fan of the Misfits, or because Cliff had one?

Almost every thread about Cliff has someone bashing this true master...
Why don't you guys grow up and stay away from these threads? It's so useless... I might not like your idol and if that's the case, you'll never find me in a thread about him/her.

Whether you like it or not-Cliff is in the same league as Jaco, Victor Wooten, John Paul Jones, Geezer Butler, Steve Harris, Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, James Jamerson, the Ox and the list goes on...
What Cliff was doing in 1983 in his playing style, use of distortion and theory was lightyears ahead of time.
Back to the point of this thread...
When MetallicA finally erupted into my influences, Cliff Burton's tone really got me...I have been paying off a 2007Mesa/Boogie Powerhouse 1000 for 11 months, almost a year the 410+15, which is close to the Mesa cab Cliff used. The amp I chose was not a Mesa 400+ but it's brother from Ampeg, the SVT II (non-pro). My head is similar to what Jason used and my Cab is similar to what Cliff used. I'm a hardcore thrasher/banger...thanks to my guitarists introducing me to Iced Earth, Metallica and Iron Maiden. Count me in the Cliff Burton club and for the record-your tat is sick dude. My guitarist has a Misfits tat on his arm too...Nobody gets a Misfits tat without being influenced by the Misfits! Again sick tat metal brother!
I'll just give my self a number, I see 7 Cliff fans including the starter so I'll giv myself no. 8. Cheers and Keep it Dirty bangers!

He doesn't deserve to have people bash him. Not only was he a great rocker but he was a well educated musician. When I first came upon his bass solo with his original band my jaw dropped because of the light he put bass in for me.
I would love to join the club but unfortunately I am flat broke so I can't afford a tribute like many of you can to this Achilles of modern music. |

I had a Rickenbacker for a while (turns out I don't like Rickenbackers much though... ), and while I had it I recorded the entire Orion interlude, using only bass. Playing all the guitar and bass parts, solos included. http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=885858&T=187
Enjoy! Quote:

I still don't understand what Lars did that was so terribly wrong

Almost forgot about that. I did both of those many years ago. Probably 4 or 5 years ago now.

I do admit I started listening to the Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig because I knew that Cliff and Jason both liked them, but then I couldn't stop listening. |

The first time I heard Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth), I knew I wanted to play bass. I've watched as much video of Cliff playing as I can find and I'm still amazed at his playing.

Here is that pic of Cliff with a black Fender Pbass. I think he only used it in Spastik Children.
