Rest in peace. Thanks for the inspiration.

I saw them open for Ozzy on their Master of Puppets tour a few months before his tragic passing...Absolutley Amazing!!!!
They opened with the first side of Master of Puppets non-stop! The most powerfully focused and brutally, hypnotically intense performance I have ever seen ever from anyone!
R.I.P Cliff...you ruled supremely!

if i could see one show in all of history, a 1986 metallica/ozzy show would probably be at the top of the list.

so lucky you got to be at such a show. to see metallica in their prime must have been unreal.

Saw him on Puppets tour in May '86. Met James and Lars. Asked for Cliff, but never met him. I remember the crowd broke the barricade during "Battery". "For Whom Bell Tolls" was fave along with "Creeping Death". Cliff rules. Metallica was never the same.

Lucky enough to see him play live twice in '85. Oakland Day on the Green in August as one of the opening acts and again in December at Sacramento Memorial Auditorium opening with Armored Saint for Y&T. Cliff was amazing!

Me back then, wanting to be Cliff:

He opened the world up for bass guitar everywhere, and is an incredible inspiration to the world. Truly one of the great gods of bass.

While I generally wish no ill upon anyone, I think SUNN O))) said it best with the "full" title of their "For Whom The Bell Tolls" cover...

R.I.P. Mr. Burton

It was 'that part' in the song Orion SPECIFICALLY that made me want to play bass guitar.
