I saw Metallica on August 1, 1986. I was 13 and it was my first concert. They opened for Ozzy on his Ultimate Sin tour. It was an awesome show from both groups. Hetfield had a broken arm from a skateboarding accident and couldn't play guitar. They had somebody else play from another band. I can't remember who.

I'm going to do that to when I'm done with work.

Also going to play a lot of Orion on bass. The first piece of music I learned on bass.

After 9 years of playing bass, Cliff is still my hero.
A highly gifted musician, who's work is still misunderstood by some bassists.

Cliff, rest in peace, you're legacy won't.

I believe it was John Marshall. I think he was part of Metallica's roadcrew, and if I'm not mistaken he was later in Metal Church.

Playing lots of the first three albums today as well, and Orion on my bass.

After listening to Orion I knew I wanted to play bass

Strangely enough it is my B-Day today, and I was born five years after the day Cliff died

I know

people will disagree but Metallica never recovered from his death...his arrangements were apparent after his death on parts of "Justice" and they have not written the same kind of songs since his death..Although more commercially successful, something was lost musically...

This is so weird. I just looked at my old bass guitar magazine that had Cliff on the cover, but I had no idea it was the day he died today. An Omen? ha

I don't care for his music, his technique or metal in general.

But loss of human life is always tragic, RIP Cliff Burton

+1

Most people don't realize what impact Cliff had on metal.
Imagine if those 4 years he was doing his part never happened.

Rest in peace.

I like Jason's playing a bit more(just), but Cliff was incredible.

I believe that's right! But it seems to me he might've already been in Metal Church while he played with them. Seems I remember when announcing him they mentioned metal church.
