guess I was right then.

I was playing seek and destroy and this drunk guy comes up and says ( at my friends house ) you guys sounded good but you need a six string bass. Cliff used a six string bass, and he needed it to get all of those octaves. Listen to kill 'em all and hear how low that is. That is a six string bass.

not his exact words, but his basic statements.

lol? They played in standard tuning. He wouldn't need a low B. I don't see how much "lower" you could go, even if you had an F# string. =/

Cliff does use distortion on Seek and Destroy, but it's definetly in standard tuning on a 4 string bass.

well next time I see him I will bring all of this up. I was going to say he just used a 4 and they played in standard E tuning, but I have learned to never argue or bet with a drunk.

I don't think that there was very many sixers around then. Anthony Jackson's customs, but not many more.

In interviews, he said he never used, or will use a bass that has more than 4 strings=) His gear was this actually:

Rickenbacker 4001.
Aria Pro SB-1000RI.
Alembic Spoiler. (This was stolen, according to Burton in an interview)
Fender Precision Bass Burton used this whenever he played with Spastik Children

Mesa Boogie 4"x12" cabinet.
Custom-built 1"x15" cabinet.
Mesa Boogie Mesa 400+ head.
Ampeg SVT-1540HE Classis Series Enclosure

Chrome Tel-Ray Morley Power Wah Fuzz. (discontinued since 1983)
Electro-Harmonix Big Muff

He must have played a Mesa/Boogie D-180 or Bass 400.
I think the Bass 400+ was introduced in 1987/88...(?)

Cliff NEVER played anything more than a 4 string. I don't hear anything lower than E on Kill 'Em All. The guy was drunk, thats all there is to it.

Why does it matter?

it's not like u could hear him anyways, except for his sloppy distorted solos which was played on a four-string.
