If he were just a singer her would be great, he would be a great guitarist, he would be a great bassist, he would be a fine keyboardist, and he would be an excellent drummer. The only other person as versatile is Stevie Wonder. It is no surpise that those two have started to collaborate.
At another level, Prince is even easier to appreciate now that he is no longer at his peak. He has dropped the persona, and now it is much easier to appreciate his actual talent as an artist IMO.

If anyone here has not had a chance to catch a live show, do yourself a favor... |

I think it says differently in the liner notes, but inside information is that Prince played the bass on that tune. Maybe the funkiest bass line I have heard in the last 10 years!!! |

There is one man who blows them both out of the water in that department. Roy Wood plays bass like a demon, and is even better at guitar. His skills on drums, cello, oboe, bassoon, harmonica and more are also nothing to sneeze at. He sings at times like a one man Beach Boys and writes music in genres including but not limited to modern classical, reggae, metal, country, pop, progressive rock, glam, jazz and old timey rock and roll. Not to mention he has played sitar on a few records and is one of the most original bagpipers in rock. He founded or co-founded ELO, The Move and Wizzard. Kind of makes me laugh at Prince a little bit (not to mention every other multi-instrumentalist). |

Also Hendrix was pretty talented at guitar , bass , and even a bit of drums ( In his early years with Curtis KNight they made and album and Hendrix played all the instruments drums included. |

If you want the best examples of his multi-instrumental virtuosity, I recommend his solo (and I do mean solo) albums Boulders and Mustard, plus ELO's first album, although I think his best songwriting is on the first Move album and his best bass playing on the last Move album Message From the Country. |
