Question Colin Edwin... How does he do it?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have some live music from Porcupine Tree and I noticed something strange in one of the live versions I have of a song called "Dislocated Day" by Porcupine Tree. Every once in a while Colin Edwin will make some weird higher pitched sound, that I can only describe as sounding like a drop of water.

I'm REALLY curious how he makes this sound. I know he is using a fretless here but not sure how he does it.

Somewhere between 4:05 and 4:15 he does a really nice one, but he does it at other parts throughout the song.

Sounds like a harmonic bent (past the nut) on the head stock.

What a crazy sound! Reminds me of Rolf Harris:

Just saw PT in Memphis last Friday night. Colin stepped over his pedalboard and used his boot to stop some blogger with a press pass from blinding him with a camera flash. She got pretty pissed off but finally left.

His playing was right on all night - even though there was so much kick drum in the mix it was hard to hear what he was playing sometimes. My daughter wanted to be right up against the stage so we had way too much subwoofer action going on.

He's my favorite bassist ever. PT has a twitter account now used by the bandmembers and Colin posts sometimes, gonna suggest him to register in Talkbass.
