Anyone here know of The Delays? My band's photographer turned me onto them a couple of weeks ago at one of our meetings and I was blown away. I had originally taken notice of them on MySpace several weeks prior, but forgot about them until that night. As I am wont to do, I immediately ordered one of their CD's online as soon as I got home.

I just received my copy of their last album, "You See Colours". Colin Fox's playing is stellar throughout this disc. His savage pseudo-distorted tone weaves its way effortlessly through the band's excellent 80's Revisited pop music and arrangements. I love this guy!

What's with the kids these days? Getting all amazing and tasteful and everything! (Heh heh.)

the high vocal reminded me of another UK band- Geneva, who were around in the mid-late 90's.

on the Delays last album the single off it (Valentine?) sounded like Japan's "quiet life"- they changed their sound to ride the 80's revival wave?

can't say i really noticed the bass playing though.

Hey, Mock.

Somehow, I just knew you'd chime in with some info. Our tastes frequently overlap.

Yes, "Valentine" is definitely a bit of a departure for them, but a good one. It stands pretty much alone stylistically on "You See Colours". Even on that song, though, the bass is great. Give it another listen when you can. In amongst all the sequencer/arpegiator synth bass lines there is some tasty, sprawling overdriven Fender goodness. Cool higher register stuff, too. Aside from the distortion, Mr. Fox reminds me at times of another bassist you and I have revered already -- Derek Forbes.

On many of The Delays' songs, the bass takes some melodically inventive turns. I can hardly wait to get my copy of their first disc!
