Come to think of it, no pro I know uses an Ibanez :/

I was just thinking about this today. All the time I see players on Youtube wielding and Ibanez, but I've never heard of an actual professional use an Ibanez to gig. All I seem to see are Fenders and Stingrays. What's up with that though? Are they really not the choice of the pros, or is it just a coincidence that no one I listen to like the Ibies? (I hope it's the latter)

Does anyone know any popular bassists who swear by them?

Not to sound flippant, but you're obviously not looking very hard. Check the Ibanez web site for starters.

That's a good idea. I took a glance, and I immediately saw Paul Grey. There's a familiar face.

NINJA EDIT: To the poster above me, yup. That's Paul.

Doesn't Greg K from The Offspring play one? I mean I have no idea but I think he does. It sounds like some humbucker thing, at least on Conspiracy of One. I think it's an ATK or something, I don't know. The bridge-humbucker Ibanez basses are on my list to try.

Troy Sanders also has some random Ibanez in some videos. I also believe I have seen pictures of Carol Kaye with some higher-end Ibanez.

I own two Ibanez basses, I love them, lots of bang for the buck but they have zero character -- they're just basses, that's my only problem with them.

The legendary Carole Kaye plays Ibanez basses. Granted, she is paid to do so ...but she does!!

Seems like a lot of New Metal and Hard Rock bands plus a lot of Jazz guys.
In the past, Mark Egan, Alphonso Johnson, Sting, Mike Porcaro, Michael Rhodes and yours truly have used them.

I'm a fan for the slim, playable necks. And for the stone cold sexy body shape. I'm not looking for a tremendous sonic "character" from my bass.

I don't care who else plays them. One supposes anyway that it's all a function of which brands have good outreach programs, giving away sponsorships to high profile musicians.

Here's one of my favorite "Ibanez moments".

Jerry Watts Jr: Babaghanoush Concert with Ralph Humphrey - Drum Channel - YouTube

There was a time when the entire hour+ Babaghanoush performance was available for free at TheDrumChannel.com. Not anymore.

I also love all the guys Roy mentioned.

Lots of Nu-Metal dudes play(ed) them..

Fieldy (Korn), Sam Rivers (Limp Bizkit), guy from Orgy I think...

They were pretty popular in the late 90's-early 00's cause of their slim necks and ability to handle low tunings.

so nobody considers Fieldy a pro now? lol

-*-

Ibanez had its heyday somewhere in the early 2000 with the NuMetal thing getting really big
