Counting Crows Matt Malley

So I was looking through my cds and decided to listen to August and everything after (it's been quite a long time since I listened to the counting crows) I never realized how talented a bass player he is. If you listen to the songs and picture no bass lines, the songs are actually pretty boring but listen to the bass and the songs just explode. I think I'm gonna have to add him to my underrated bassists list. Very cool indeed.

great player... great material. I love the band and listen to them often. He's no longer with them. Millard Powers plays on the latest studio (and live) release... also a descent player.

I was just listening to "hanging around" or whatever that song is called the other day and I was thinking the same thing, that guy is a beast.

Totaly agree, they would have sucked had they not had him.

What ever happened to Matt? I enjoyed his playing on some of their live stuff as well.

Ive always really appreciated Matt's work w/ CC... I like what he is doing now as well. whatever the circumstances that led him to his current project- I think he made a wise decision!

Not knocking CC at all- but I loved August... and I really didnt care much for anything that they have done since. I liked the Joni Mitchell remake but thats about it for me

I dig Matt's playing.

But, he always got a bad mix, both live, and on record.

Maybe that's why he left the band

I've always been a Counting Crows fan, but I agree. Really interesting player with great understated lines so I could never understand why they buried him in the mix. The first time I saw them live (in Berkeley when I was in high school) he was almost inaudible.

Nice, solid player.Plays what the song needs.I really don't know what vocal style I dislike most, the guys whiny-ass vocals from the group in question,or,"Cookie Monster" vocals.Oh well,he must've been doing something right,he bagged Courtney Cox.
