ok, this is about cradle of filth, and before you think 'eww no i aint going anywhere near them' i wanna know about the bass sound in this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96FbBxCDbkg

dont know the bassists name, but will fix that with google.

OK, not the best quality but you can hear the bass solo clearly at the beginning.

i have a GK 400RB-IV/2x10 combo amp. A westfield jazz bass and a squire p/j special.

wich guitar should i use? the jazz or the P/J?

is it possible for me to get this sort of clear/fat sound with any of theese guitars on this amp?

If so, any setting reccomendations?

Really you should be using an Active bass with humbuckers and a pick.

The more recent Cradle bassists have used Maverick X5 limited edition basses. Which is a korean builtl 5 string with generic 3 band Eq's and humbuckers.

I had one myself and had that same sound.

Hmm i doubt it.

I would use the P-J combination both pickups at 100% And keep the EQ flat a pancake. Use a plectrum, Make sure its at the correct tuning with heavy strings. Maybe use a medium plectrum? Not thick anyway.

Pick nearish the bridge.

Thats the only help i can give you. The bass tone is really sterile.

Tbh i think you really need an active bass to get that sort of sound.

A lot of a bass' sound in a setting like that has to do with a producer. Sounded to me like it was compressed pretty heavy and some mids were cut, nothing too special. But it's hard to make a bass with a distinct tone sound like a different bass with a distinct tone. My advice, instead of imitating another bassist, mess around with what you got and try to make it sound the best you can and be happy with YOUR tone.

Use the Jazz for the growl and punch , sounds like the bass player is using possibly a teensy bit of overdrive and a compressor

Either get some thick sounding J pickups or use the P/J while picking near the bridge. Playing with a pick may help, and a bit of compression/overdrive does, too. As said, a Sansamp Bass Driver DI would be a decent choice, but the first thing I thought when hearing the clip was that you should have a bass with 2 humbuckers or soapbars. You can probably find an inexpensive bass with those pickups.
