All, realized after getting my first 5 string (fretless) that I don't own a lot of albums with 5 string on it. When I started to play around '84, 5 strings were still semi-exotic. The majority of my music library consists of players like Lee, Jaco, Manring, Chris Squire, etc, none of them known for their 5 string playing (Lee cracked open his 5 str Wal for one tune, and I think Squire used a 5 str Tobias a bit in the late 80s, but other than that...)
Do you have any recommended albums/songs for a 4 str guy like me to add to my listening rotation? My iTunes library is a little too full of Rush and Iron Maiden.

Will check him out. Re: Wooten, I have the first Flecktone disc and Wooten's Show of Hands but I don't recall any 5 str work (been a long time since I listened to Wooten).

Or you may not. But there's a lot of 5 and 6 string goodness from John. For fretless, look up Steve Bailey. If this fails, you can always stick with Fieldy from Korn |

Tunes like Flight of the Cosmic hippo, lochs of dread, bigfoot, have tons of B-string goodness.
I can't think of a specific tune where he recorded with a 5 string fretted, but I'll admit to not really following his albums since the early 2000's. |

With all due respect to monsters like Hadrien Feraud et al, they're phenomenal players, but when I was posting looking for 'creative' 5 stringers it was guys like Horan I was looking for.
Now I gotta get a looper. :P
