The Cure - Simon Gallup - Hollywood Pantages

I haven't recovered fully enough to write a review, but 3+ hour show at the Hollywood Pantages rocked. The first three Cure albums played in their entirety + B sides. A fan's dream. Robert played a Fender VI bass on a couple of songs as well.

Anyway Simon is beat'n a Fender Precision bass during the reflection shows and it sounds amazing. Curious, if anyone one knows the vintage and what strings he's using on it - all black model with a maple fret board. Sweet!! Looks like the newer logo as well.

Two more shows on the west coast tonight and tomorrow before they head to NY. Believe it or not they still had a few select tickets at the box office.

I would have to assume it's a 1979/1980 model (or earlier). He used a black Precision with a black pickguard and a maple fretboard on the Seventeen Seconds and Faith tours of 1980 and 1981. I assume it's probably the same bass, and assuming he bought it new around then, a 1979 or a 1980 would be likely. As for strings, during the '80s he used flatwounds, he's been using rounds with a silverly grey silk lately.

They didn't play Close to Me, but if they would've, it probably would've been keyboards now that Roger O'Donnell is back in the band.

The Cure - In Your House live 1980 - YouTube

It must be an '79/'80 but the fret board is maple. Looks like the one!!
