Daniel Gildenlow: A Guitarist who Plays AMAZING bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I don't know how many Pain of Salvation fans on here, but if you're a fan of the band you know Kristoffer Gilenlow left the band last February, right before the recording of the new album. So, Daniel picked up bass duties as well as guitar/vocals/banjo.

Most guitarists who pick up a bass, as we all can probably agree, generally don't have "it"

Daniel definitely isn't one! His basslines on this album are killer, not even just roots/following his own guitar, he's doing fills and killer lines on what sounds like it could be a fretless?

Any idea what rig/basses Daniel was using in this album?

It's possible he's using his brother's rig. I know Kristoffer was a fretless player, but I haven't heard the new album yet. They are brothers, right?

Yeah, they were bro's... and I don't know Kristoffer's gear either.

I'm pretty sure Kristoffer used fretted and fretless six's, possibly a Jerzy Drozd?

Sounds like on some songs Daniel's using a fretless as well.

I definitely recommend the new album, but I wouldn't say it's the kinda album you can just play a song at random on, cuz it gives you a weird perspective... for at least your first few listens I definitely say give it thru the entire way thru. It's amazing.

Kristoffer used to use two custom Nueser basses a fretted and fretless six string:
Lined Fretless:

Now he has switched to using custom Mayones basses:
here's his Fretted:

and the fretless:

That it is, but I had a real tough time finding it until I went to Amoeba Music.

Amazon.com has it, though.

And thanks for the help, that Mayones looks like the one he's playing in the pics I saw. Too bad Kristoffer isn't with them anymore!

But glad it wasn't a painful split, they even thanked him for "All the great years" in the album's liner notes.

How is the new CD? Anyone here heard it yet? I wasn't too much of a fan of BE, but I liked everything else, especially Perfect Element Pt.1 and Remedy Lane.

The new CD is more band oriented, a Perfect Element Pt. II, really.

It's a deep CD, the songs are haunting but they're all basically just about the band, not the grandness of BE.
