Danny Carey on Justin Chancellor and the new Tool album

I've read two separate recent interviews with DC about the new album and he mentions that "Justin Chancellor has been the “main driving force” to get the album completed." and "Justin is really prolific on this album"

I dont know about you but that fills me with giddy girlish glee.

Yea, I must admit I'm very sceptical of this. They first mentioned working on a new album nearly four years ago, and said they were going into the studio last year in July. I'm not sure they've actually recorded anything yet, and I'm also concerned with Maynards apparent lack of involvement. He's still talking about wine and Puscifer but he hasn't talked about a new Tool project in an interview for years.

I'm glad to hear Justin is taking a more prominent role, because he has a more inventive playing style than Adam IMO. An album principally driven by their rhythm section would kick some serious ass, especially if Daney employed the electronic parts of his kit a bit more while still blurring the acoustic/electric demarcation.

My opinion is that there won't be a new Tool album this year or next year. They can't release one if it's not projected to sell, because Tool as a business unit are only responsible for one third of Tool Dissectional. One of the other thirds is still owned by a major label.

I wouldn't be surprised if an album popped up next month or three years from now. Either way they will just release it with little to no pre-promotion, IMO. Tool, expect the unexpected.

If they make another "art" album where there is like 4 good songs and the rest random noise, then yes I agree. I didn't like the last album much at all. There were a couple songs that I totally liked then the rest of the artsy noise killed it for me.

Opiate, Undertow, AEnima, most of Lateralus, all worth the listen.

10,000 Years, meh.

I'd be the opposite of that actually, been a fan since the early days but i became an uberfan after JC joined. i can take or leave opiate/undertow for the most part.

I love Maynard's voice and Adam's guitar, but I could totally get into a drum and bass only TOOL album.

I really hope this is all true and its coming soon. I mean I know were all use to waiting 5 years between albums but 7 years is pushing it. 7 YEARS!? Think of how long that is. I was not driving when 10,000 days came out. I'll be 23 this year and still no real word of an album coming out. I love tool so much but its kinda ridiculous to have 7 years without a new album. And its 7 years as of now, who knows if we'll see it this year. Could be 8 before it comes out. Although Chancellor, Carey, and Jones seem inspired who knows whats going on with maynard besides beating off to wine and working on side projects. I have no source and its just opinion but I feel like they are probably waiting on maynard and he is delaying the project. However, if it does come out this year i'll be full of giddy girlish glee as you call it

aenima and lateralus are both amazing records. undertow was an awesome start but just wasnt there yet.

10,000 days was horrible, i actually thought it was a fake out by them when it leaked online, and i lost a 20 dollar bet on it. shame on me lol. so if its anything like 10,000 days, wont be there.

Maynard has always been the last person to record on the album, once the song is written, Maynard puts words to it.

IIRC, I heard that Tool was supposed to break up after 10,000 Days, but they didn't realize that the album was going to blow up and create a following.
