I gotta thank Will for bringing this guy to my attention.
I hear plenty of great bassists that I appreciate but this guy just came out of nowhere and pretty much raised the bar for me for soloing on the bass. He has a vocabulary like Dizzy Gillespie and he makes that old jazz bass thump!
Here him here with one of my favorite bass players Marco Panascia. Wow!
I went to iTunes to pick up some records he's on and I couldn't believe that this guy sounds just as good on fretless and upright.
This guy is the real deal, Gary Willis and Steve Swallow just received some company at the top of my list.
Check out his tunes and support this guy! If anybody knows anything more about him (where he's been, who he's played with etc.) please post it here. |

It was about time Dario got the international recognition he deserved, and I am great that MySpace and other websites, this one included, are making it happen.
I first heard him play back home in Italy in 1995, and it changed my perspective on jazz bass playing, forever.
You go, Dario!

| | | | Dario for me is THE bassist.. this guy has such a vocabulary and voice on the electric bass.. pure brilliance. Unfortunately there is not that much info on the net or elsewhere about him. i did not find any interviews etc. in english.
So Dario lives in Italy? Does he play a lot in Italy? Does he teach? how did he start out when he was young? I wish he was on talkbass to answer these questions, this guys is like one of the biggest inspirations for me! |

Dario does live in Italy and works with the top musicians there. He will teach occasionally, I believe. I studied with him before I moved to the US in '98, and the man changed my life over the course of one lesson. He started out playing when he was really young. He's as proficient on piano as he is on the bass (it's him playing piano and keys on his myspace stuff, supposedly he does it all at home on Garageband!).
You can easily get in touch with him thru his myspace page.
Hope this helps,
Marco |

Marco, thanks for showing up.
The more I listen to Dario the more and more I like him.
I was surprised to hear how great he sounded on fretless (check out Il Mondo Di Fabio) and upright (his playing on Liberty City is inspiring) not to mention his 4 string jazz bass
I bought everything I could find with him on it, I just hope he keeps recording more music! |

| | | Hi Marco (and fellow talkbass members),
thanks a lot for the information and for chatting on talkbass . Let me say that what dario does on the elctric, you are doing on the Upright! Your solos are just so musical, melodic and have that jazz vocabulary... if you dont mind answering.. did you do a lot of transciption to get there? I find this helps me the most to build up a vocabulary and soloing ideas. Though I am constantly amazed how You and Dario are so fluent and natural with it. Its not licks, its music, and thats still the hardest part for me. I want to break away from just a "lick player" lol. I wonder what Dario communicated to you in his lesson?
Anyway, I hope you dont mind asking all this. And I also hope to be catching you in Europe sometime when you are on tour around here. I will check your myspace.
Chris from Germany. |
