From blistering hardcore punk to chilled out reggae, this guy can play it all! I don't think I've ever seen a thread or even a mention of Darryl. I can't help but feel inspired anytime I see him or the rest of the Brains go at it!! What do you fellow steel-string grinders think of this Rasta bass monster?

But yeah, +1 on 'I Against I' - that album shook my fillings out. |

Quick story - I was working with a band, and felt Darryl would be the perfect guy to mix their record, so I reached out to him. He got back to me right away, and was super cool and hyper-insightful. Scheduling prevented the collaboration though. Bummer.
However, I was also lucky enough to catch Bad Brains' last show at CBGB's during their final week. Halfway through the set people started ripping the entire wooden bar to shreds and taking pieces home with them. I'm not sure how the place looked for Patti Smith the next night. ;-)

I couldn't even imagine. I went to CBGBs a bunch of times and a couple of times before it closed. (Still can't believe it's gone) I still remember just walking through it and being in complete awe of the history that was on the walls, the wood, everything. It was in dire shape then, but when was it ever not? I heard the stage floor flexed as you walked on it. It seriously was a place of history.

At this point, HR looks a little bored by the whole thing, but it was still a great show. Wish I would've seen them in the 80s or 90s, however. |
