If you go to part 1 you'll see Darrly get that bass handed to him. So I'm assuming it's not his.

That bass reminds me of a Atelier Z bass.

It was a VERY casual jam session and they literally just handed him the bass. This was a jam hosted by a Chicago organization called MECCA,Darryl is good friends with the people who run the organization and happened to be in town hanging out and it happened to get filmed, trust me he is STILL a great player.

He's listed as an Artist on the Sadowsky page, So I would assume he at least owns one.

Darryl played a Sadowsky on a number of records before the Stones gig happened for him. He was pictured with Milt Hinton (?) in an old issue of Bass Player magazine with a white/maple NYC standard. I think he played one on "Voodoo Lounge" for a few tracks.

The tone on the video clip is about as atypical for a Sadowsky as you can get. Darryl doesn't normally play with that thin of a tone, either. There must have been an oddball tone setting or some sort of recording media glitch.

There was no oddball tone setting at all. That's basically the tone that the owner of the bass gets but mainly when he applies it in a Funk/R&B setting where it needs to cut through.

Here is the same bass that Darryl was using in the clip, played he by the owner.

Bassslave is seriously getting that Mark Adams tone on that clip! Back in the day, that was the sound.

The first Sadowsky I ever played was darryls,a Blue 4 string. He also had one of the first sadowsky 5 strings, it had really narrow spacing, Mike Elizono(sp)has it now according to a Bass Player mag article

I have to agree. You can't get that thin of a tone from a Sadowsky without cutting out some lows somewhere in the chain. The flat setting on a Sadowsky is HUGE compared to the tone in that recording.

To me, in that clip, the bass sounds much fuller/fatter (even considering a lousy concert recording). THAT sounds like a Sadowsky. Something's not right in the other recording.

I agree but the tone was compressed during the mixing of the music in that clip that is from a dvd recording.
