Daryl Jenifer and his famous hardcore punk band Bad Brains are supposedly quite the virtuosos at their instruments. I really like the band and I've gotten alot of influence from it, but is there any particular albums/songs that show his skills? Or solo recordings, live performances etc? He's really cool and I need another idol seeing as Jaco, Flea and Les Claypool are my only main ones... |

There's no "supposedly". They're all great players and they're the greatest band ever.
Most of their albums run their whole gamut - hardcore, metal, gospel, roots reggae and funk. If you can cop everything off the Rise album, for example, you'll be a killer bassist/guitarist/drummer/singer ... whichever you like.
The latter albums offer the most diversity on a single disc, either Rise or God of Love I'd say. Purely for learning bass, I'd say Rise. It's got the slap funk of Hair, some raging tunes, some good reggae, and then some. Older albums mostly toggle between the ragers and the reggae.
Check out their latest as well, called "Build A Nation". Seen 'em twice this summer touring for it and they can still blow off the map any two dozen of the endless young bands they've influenced.

I have been listening to them for 23 or so years. Saw them at The Farm in SF in the late 80's. Love Bad Brains. Daryl is incredible. |

Check out Sailin' On, Banned In D.C., Pay To Cum, and Supertouch/Sh!tfit for exceptional hardcore tracks. Then throw on I Love I Jah to throw your head in the complete opposite direction. |

for some reason, i love the 'quickness' album. it has such amazing groove.
+1 on 'build a nation.' amazing how they can put out an album after so many years and still blow everyone else away.
