Dave Ellefson and Frank Bello Bass Workshop at Sweetwater's annual Gearfest

Since I live within 40 min. of Fort Wayne, Indiana, I had the opportunity to attend Sweetwater's Gearfest. It goes on today and tomorrow. It was a wonderful event, with tons of great musicians, seminars/workshops, demos, and gear. The big "event" of today was a bass workshop done by Dave Ellefson and Frank Bello. Both were fantastic and gave a ton of great advise and insight, as well as an ample amount of humor.

Did they have the answer to the all important question, "Which bass is best for metal?"?

If not, you got hosed.

That's awesome though. Definitely two of my early bass heroes & hearing Caught in a Mosh was what made me want to pick up the bass in the first place.

Of course. Either the Fender Frank Bello signature or the Jackson custom shop Ellefson signature bass. They were very adamant about their Hartke LH1000's and Hydrive cabs.

Funny story. I was checking out the Fender booth's bass section when Frank Bello walks up beside me and starts shopping around. Of course I said hi and shook his hand, and observed what he was checking out. He bought (or at least borrowed, I wasn't paying that much attention) a Geddy Lee jazz bass. It turns out that Delta airlines shipped his bass to Detroit by mistake and he was having to go the run-a-round to try to get it here. He had the Geddy set up in case it didn't arrive. Luckily it arrived, and after a quick string change, and everything was back to normal. His Sansamp decided not to work though.
