It's definately 2010 news, but like 4-5 months old at least. I dont know why he switched from peavey, I personally prefered that sound. The late 90's megadeth stuff, although the songs kinda sucks, the bass sound is massive and really awesome!

He's not a Hartke endorsee, he's a Hartke endorser. The artist endorses the product, not the other way 'round.

Why the change? Any one or a combination of a lot of reasons, and all we can do is speculate...

GAS, change in tastes, personality conflicts, key people at Peavey moved on, old buddy back with Samson, money, looks, street-cred, totally hot chick working for Samson, etc.

John

Hartke is definitely picking up the big names these days. When I was first playing back in the late 80s, Hartke stuff was IT. Then I took a break from bands until a few years ago and when I came back and heard Hartke stuff was considered mostly budget low end stuff, I was shocked. Nevertheless, I bought some Hartke gear when I started up playing again and I liked it especially in a band mix. Now Ive been hearing alot of good stuff about the hydrive cabs and I might check some out.

This stuff all goes in cycles. GK followed a similar path.

Ampeg is about the only bass amp brand that's been consistently considered "cool".

Ampeg is in that same catagory as Fender and Gibson. It's one of those "holy grail" brands that many think can do no wrong. Also just like F and G some of its good, most is decent, and some of it's junk, but people will buy it cause its Ampeg.

As for the original post I agree that the post Rust discs had some of the best engineering and beefiest bass tones Dave E. has ever tracked. BTW don't forget to look for clips of "HAIL" with Dave playing along side other metal names playing covers of their favorite tunes. Awesome stuff from Judas Priest to Sepultura to Slayer and King Diamond.

I forgot to list two of the biggest reasons people change endorsements. First, tour support. Most endorsement deals don't revolve around cash changing hands, but being able to get what the artist needs for different gigs with a minimum of hassle, and being able to get stuff fixed immediately if needed.

Second, he just plain likes how it sounds. We often read all this other stuff into changes like this, but it could be he just likes the Hy-Drive speakers.

JTE..

Another portion (at least when I was doing it) was how big the expectations were of you.

A dude like him should be able to just lend his face to some pix and all it a day.

Tour support is the huge factor.

Timmy
