I may not be much of a bass player, but I am definitely a tone junkie. Recently, I've been pouring over a lot of 70's music just to go back and listen to some forgotten bass lines and sounds.
I happened to be listening to some Kansas and I tell you, Dave Hope is a pretty good bassist. He's not too flashy of a player, but he has the chops and plays to fit the song. While listening to the song Portrait(He Knew), I really zoned in on his tone. His tone is comparable to Geddy Lee's but a bit warmer with that little bit of overdriven tube grit. I can't seem to find anything about his gear he used, but it sounds great. Anybody have any information on his gear in the 70's?

One of my favorite bassists. I see Kansas on tour just about every year.....current bassist Billy Greer is a great bassist as well as a great singer.

As for Dave Hope.....He used a P-Bass until 1977 when he started playing a Stingray and later a Steinberger(like Geddy Lee's). He currently plays a MusicMan Bongo.
