Dave (NOTRoger) Glover- Early Elton John

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been listening to "Tumbleweed Connection" and "Madman Across The Waters", and really enjoying Glover's bass lines and the recorded sound of his bass. However I can't find anything about him other than lots of references to Hookfoot, the band he was in with Caleb Quaye.

Any one know much about him?

John

I can't add much about David Glover, but those early Elton John records are pretty amazing. "Southern Rock" before the Allmans and Lynyrd Skynyrd, and from Brits no less.

Huh?!? I don't see 'em that way at all! Sure, some of Bernie's lyrics are based on mythology of the old west, but I don't see any parallels with either the jazz-based collective improvisation of The Allman Bros. nor the mind-numbing vapid and meandering guitar over a turgid rhythm section with meaningless lyrics of Skynyrd...

I hear parallels in both lyrical and musical themes, mainly due to the country and folk influences in Tumbleweed which are also present in alot of what later came to be called "southern rock."
