Hello! I've been in a band for a year now, that has been dying since we started because of the guitar player..I'm looking into a new band! A good friend, a few years older asked me if I wanted to join his band, I said yes.
So he wants to start a hardcore death metal band. I think it will be fun, i've listened to a few local bands, and I know what he wants. All the local band's bass players just play the roots, and pretty much play like 4 notes per song, lol. I dont mind this but im thinking of doing some metal hardcore tapping to add a twist, and make the band really fun. The guitarist doesnt mind. I've seen it done before, by only 2-3 bands, i've only heard 1 of them but the bassist doesnt use that much tapping.
So what are some bands/bassist that are metal and tap?? I want to get some good ideas and learn a bit more.. please help!? |

However, I would not suggest using this technique as it is very limited in it's usefulness, and if you ask me, a cheesy cliche' of the genre. You may want to explore other options such as playing with interesting rhythm or harmony to make your lines interesting. |

Between the buried and me
Necrophagist
The faceless
If you really want to get good at tap, I suggest victor wooten
I would also add that the most important aspect of tapping in death metal is knowing when not to

And make up your mind, hardcore or death metal. |

The player from Protest the Hero does some taps in parts.
Ryan Martini of Mudvayne...

In Anesthesia there is little part what is played with tapping...
Not hardcore but definatelly metal/trash
For fast two handed tapping check Billy Sheehan.. Not really metal, but rock and you can use hes techniques in more metal/trash style solos...

There's another grindcore-whatever group that has a video in circulation on Headbanger's Ball that has got to be centered around the bass player, because half of the video is focused on his playing. He does all kinds of tapping and other sillyness.
That's all I've got right now. |

Also, always check out Jean Baudin and Nuclear Rabbit - he is one of the greatest tappers out there. |

And also check Ryan Martinie from Mudvayne. He has an interesting funk past with bass, so i guess he is into using different techniques while playing hardcore things. For example, check out the songs "Dig" and "Not Falling" of Mudvayne. There are lots of interesting bass lines in those songs.
