A Debate of Two Solos.

Sign in to disble this ad
Me and a my guitarist friends have been debating our opinion of two live bass performances of For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica.
My favourite being the Cliff Burton version and my friend's favourite the Rob Trujillo version.
I thought I'd see the opinions of some fellow bassists.

A debate of two opinions will never end.

I realise it will never end but it would be nice if it started on here

I'm not looking for an answer as to which is better I'm just curious of what other people think.

Two incomparable styles - the question of "who's better" has no answer!

Let me see ....

Cliff should have taken up lead guitar instead of bass ...

Trujillo -- wearing cut off sweatpants and waddling around like a frog doesn't make you a good player.

My opinion, of course. My guess is others will disagree.

Both are good. Cliff's is better as an intro to that particular song since there isn't a drastic shift in tone, but Rob's has much more bass to the bass solo. They both just show a different approach to playing the instrument and neither is wholly better than the other.

Both are good, neither are amazing.

Trujillo is more skilled. Burton is more honest.

I think Trujillo did the better solo overall IMO

BUT

I think Burton's worked better with the song.
