Of Pete Wentz...

Before I begin, let me reveal that I am not a huge fallout boy fan. That I'm dishing out an un-biased opinion based off what I have observed over the past year or so. There are no posters on my wall. I do not buy their cds. I do not know all of the band members names.

While I do not particularly care for Wentz or any of Fallout Boy, I do not understand where the bashing of his bass playing capabilities come from. Sure, he does appear to be a kinda snobbish person in that he has "made it" and he knows it ((opened a bar, tried to open an art gallery, the list goes on)). Oh yes, I'm all for bashing his character, but where does the bashing of his abilities to play bass actually come from? Lets explore this...

Lets begin with the idea that he ((and his band)) HAVE "made it". While playing a popular form of music definitely has something to do with it, you do not get to where they are and stay there by 100% sucking ((as far as actual bands are concerned)).

Next, the bass lines in general. Listening to the music and reading the tabs, Pete's bass lines are no more simple or complex than the average blink 1-82 song, greenday song, or most other "pop" punk bands of this day and yet, Pete is known as a player comparable to dog poo, where as mark hoppus is sometimes hailed as amazing, or atleast is not called a fool at every corner. So, I guess if you reaaaally wanted to bash on a bass player for their abilities to play bass AND their character, Sid Vicious is always a name that comes to mind. He was an A-Hole((allegedly killed his girlfriend)) and a terrible bass player ((he couldn't play, his parts were written for him)).

As a closing note, I'll talk about his signature bass. With a proper set up, while the bat thing on the finish is very lame and in poor taste ((imo)), it isn't a bad bass. It has a GOOD sound and it IS the same one he uses on stage/in the recording studio. Just thought I'd toss that out there.

Anyways, this is just a rant out of boredom...If someone has taken the time to read all of this and has a GOOD reason that Pete Wentz is "a terrible bass player", and would like to enlighten me, then please do...Until then, either ALL post-punk bass players MUST be terrible as well, because I personally have not found a "punk" rock band that formed since the mid nineties with a bass player that is noticeably better or worse than wentz, OR, people are just jealous

Mark Hoppus is a at least fairly competent live player. Wentz, well, search youtube. There's a lot of studio trickery and/or a lot of takes for each track of a Fallout Boy album.
