I've got to say, for the last couple of days the only album I have been listening to is Lady Antebellum's newest release, Need You Now. While it does have great harmonies and catchy melodies and hooks, it also has some very tasty bass playing by Dennis Edwards. It is not flashy in-your-face bass lines, its more subtle tasteful stuff, but it works so well! All of his fills are very tasty and add another dimension to the songs.
at any rate, i just figured i would give credit where credit is due.

:rant on:
hate that for you. I wish all the music artists from here on out would cater to you and your musical tastes for ever and ever. I wish all those "non-talented" corporate sell out a$$ clown country artists here in Nashville would make music that you, and only you, liked ....ya, they must take themselves way tooooooo seriously. I hate when people take their business too seriously. I mean all those guys in suits in corporate america, man, talk about taking yourself way too seriously....It's fine if you don't like them. Don't buy their music. No big. I'm pretty sure they won't be that upset about it. But, they must be doing something right....I mean, how many records did your last album sell? I think their new one is doing pretty well for them.....hmmm...but what do 1,000,000 stupid fans know anyways? :rant off:
and yes, great bass playing on their records, contrary to a seemingly popular concensus in another thread posted here about how bad Nashillve sucks. |

I'll complain about how Nashville / LA / Pop Music / R&B - neo soul / rap / hip hop / smooth jazz / techno / etc. sucks after I have earned my two million from music.

It's not my type of music but they are selling more records than I can dream of selling so they must be doing something right. The great thing about music is there is something for everyone and if I don't like it I don't have to listen to it.

anyway, they're definitely not for me, but someone likes them, so it's all good. they beat the hell out of heidi montag or paris hilton, i'll give them that

I don't know. I understand what you're saying. But if I think the culture in this country that informs and shapes a lot of our collective sensibilities is basically a sewer, I think I have not only a right but an obligation to be concerned, and a right to express that concern. I know that sounds soapboxy, but I don't think a cultural or musical critique - if it's genuine, well-though-out, and informed - is out of bounds, and shouldn't be muzzled by a "if you don't like it don't listen to it" consumerist line. Not saying Jimmy's critique is ready for peer review yet ... |

i know you're all surprised to hear that, but it's true

i know you're all surprised to hear that, but it's true | hehehe....that is awesome. somethingawful.com once posted a review of weezer's blue album where they totally trashed it and even got the band members names wrong, and got a lot of facts about the band/songs/lyrics wrong. then they posted the hate mail on thier website>...the whole thing was a joke to inspire awesome hate mail messages! Genius!

Because if so, I've got $20 that says I'd like to read it. (They hate because they care.) |

I like Lady Antebellum- especially after buying (what I believe is the debut record) for my wife who is the country afficiando of our house... and subsequently stealing it away
I like Americana or rootsy music- and this is in that vein I suppose. There are bigger acts on country radio who get pigeonholed (rightly or wrongly) as 'pop music in cowboy boots', but I think bands like LA, Brad Paisley, Montgomery Gentry, and Keith Urban defy that label because they write good songs and they are all filled w/ great musicians. I can understand that the easy-going nature of much of that music may not be for everybody, but that doesnt diminish the fact that the people who play it are very talented folks... |

(Check out Brad's tune "Les is More." Or "Cluster Pluck," or "Throttleneck," or "Mr. Policeman," or "Make a Mistake" ...)
