So my friend got me onto this band called Anberlin. Normally if I listen to pop punk its because the song is catchy, not for a bassline of any calibre. But holy heck, this guy has some sweet lines and a sweet Jazz Bass tone to boot! I highly recomend you check out the songs "Undeveloped Story" and "Runaways".

The Descendents are the source of Pop-punk, and they don't sit on the root note.

In the better pop-punk, the bass is very melodic while the guitar mostly plays power chords.

Isn't the term "pop-punk" an oxymoron since it goes against the spirit of punk?
