I downloaded a Robert Glasper CD which featured a whole lot of covers, and it is great. I am not a rap fan, but Glasper incorporates it quite well. Derrick Hodge is incredible and a total pro. This clip is a great example of how to play a hip hop bassline. It is also definite proof that the funk I grew up on is dead. Funk is still an influence, but it no longer defines popular Black music.

BTW, the volume on that clip was ridiculously low!

Thanks for the rec, Jerry! Had never heard of Lionel Louke. Here's a great clip from the same concert: http://youtu.be/vQqni1EoF0Q

Yeah, I love that clip, and I'm hoping for a collab too. I've yet to get the Lionel Loueke album, but his playing on Esperanza's latest album is great. Those two are also on Jack DeJohnette's latest album, Sound Travels.

I have a lot of respect for Robert Glasper. He's doing exactly what needs to happen with jazz. Not just with his own albums, but the playing and producing he's doing for others. Personally, I'd like to hear him do something completely different as well, and maybe a collab with someone like Joe Lovano.

I've got to see Derrick Hodge with Robert twice this year and both shows have been unreal! They're the nicest guys too Glasper let me and my friends watch his sound check and then the band sat a table and we all got to talk for a couple hours. Really the nicest guys.

+1!

Oh yeah, and the 'coming soon' comments could, perhaps, have something to do with Black Radio 2, currently being recorded!
