Detailed photo documentation of Mike Gordon (and all of Phish's) live setup

I found this to be pretty cool! I know there have been threads about what Mike uses live, so here's the definitive answer. Also shows detailed shots of the entire rig it takes to make the Phish experience come to life.

That first picture of them with the psuedo-Pink Floyd light show made me puke a little. Sorry guys but as interesting as the gear is I still cannot stomach a second of Phish. They are filling a Grateful Dead shaped hole imho and thats about it.

Right on. You're entitled to your opinion, and so are the millions of people, myself included, who find them to be incredibly creative, talented, and unique. Maybe that's why they're one of the biggest touring bands ever. Have you ever seen them live?

Some people cannot listen to their albums during their everyday life, but when they see them live it's a whole other story - that is for sure.

Thanks for this info, I'm gobbling it up!!

I wish they would've added details to Mike's rig, as well as showing the Meyer EQ / rack to Mike's left. I love that the pictures are so detailed you can see the dust collecting on his racked pedals. Source Audio Bass Multiwave Distortion is there as well. I saw the Phish 3D Movie and Mike was using a BMS.

Affraid not. That would probably change my opinion of them a lot. They don't seem to come to the UK (much like The Dead played a lot fewer UK shows).

On a side note I wish the keyboard rig was explained! Is that a little wurlitzer piano in there?

definitely a little wurlitzer in there!

I can agree with both sides of the "love them" and "hate them" opinions toward Phish. I grew up adoring everything they did as a band and gradually moved away from them when they broke up the first time in 2000. I think my love of Phish's music is what gave me the open mind to reach out and discover everything else. Albums like 'Story of the Ghost" and "Rift" are among the best records ever recorded (IMHO).

BUT, after a show last summer at SPAC I probably won't go see them again. Unless they play somewhere in VT and I don't have to travel too far.

this article was pretty great, but like most Phish related press its only detailed on Trey's stuff... what are those rack pieces in Mike's effect cabinet? And lets talk about Fishman's cymbals....

Yeah, millions of people thought the Dead were incredibly creative, talented, and unique too; and the Dead were one of the biggest touring bands ever. IOW you guys are talking about two sides of the same coin.

Not my cuppa joe, but w/ever.

Excellent article and pictures! Thank you! It's a shame close minded people will never know how unbelievable they are live.

i haven't been to any shows since before the first hiatus... using a midi keyboard to control lights is a cool idea!

Without derailing this topic further I must say that is a dream Keyboard rig. I'm seeing a Clavinet with an MXR phase 9, a Fender Rhodes, A Moog little Phatty ontop of a Hammond, the little wurlitzer and some kind of 1970s Yamaha synth. All you need is a Mellotron!

FYI the boys played one of the best shows I've ever seen tonight in Charlotte. Definitely worth a listen if you're a fan.

The setlist looks sick! First FYF since '87! I can't believe they played the Wedge AND Lizards, amazing looking show!

Agreed. I've got the show (lossy SBD), what's a good way to get it to you?
