Dickie Peterson Blue Cheer bassist Tribute

Sign in to disble this ad
We lost a Metal Pioneer this week.Dickie Peterson of Blue Cheer. This band was dubbed "Louder than God".The first time I heard of them was on "MTV'S Closet Classics" yea, when MTV still played rock videos and not dum dum programing they have today.Anyway, these guys did a kick ass version of "Summertime Blues" I always thought it was way better than The Who's version. So,in tribute to Mr.Peterson,go to your amp, turn it up loud, and let loose! I just thought that their should be some mention on this forum. If you have any Blue Cheer stories, please post. Dickie Peterson,R.I.P.

No stories, just a Blue Cheer fan.
They also did a cool cover of the Booker T. Jones classic "The Hunter". They were punk/metal before either of those terms were in use.

Adios Dickie, and thanks.

RIP Dickie. I eventually wore out the album with Summertime Blues on it. Great stuff. I heard he was hosting an 'open mike' night a few years back in CA.
And sometime this weekend I'll step on my distortion box at our gig.

My Vincerus Eruptum lp is still with me, buried somewhere in an ancient collection of albums. Blue Cheer were great for their time, back when Hendrix and Cream were top 40 material. Great music it was...and still is. Raw, unrefined, ground-breaking hard-rock.

RIP Dickie Peterson

The only band to have a recording session shut down by the US Coast Guard

To get their stage sound on the then upcoming Outsideinside LP, Dickie took the band out of the studio onto the Sausalito Pier in NY to be able to max the Marshalls, well... you guessed it. Only got half way thru that idea, but it can be heard forever on the record.

I saw Blue Cheer waaaaay back in the day. They were playing for free outside Keezar Stadium in San Francisco and no one had heard of them yet. It was as totally new sound at that time. RIP Dickie
