If it wasn't for David Gilmour, only his mother would follow him on twitter.

Maybe, but at least I don't still live with mine..: )

I really like his playing, simple and to the point when needed, no showing off, but not sure i'd get on with him in person. He seems a bit egotistic, maybe thats just confidence as he has had a great career, according to his quite funny and entertaining book.

Im very envious of his career and i'd say he is my all time fav bass player.

EDIT: Living near Waterloo myself i'd love to bump in to him one day and have a chat and a coffee, just to prove me wrong ;-)

For the record, twitter was created as a means of telling others "This is what I'm doing now." It isn't really a Q&A thing. Guy's frustration is entirely understandable. It works best if you consider everyone you follow a "fair weather friend" and if you really want twitter spam, just follow Yoko Ono (I'm sure there are others, but that's the one that comes to mind ATM).

Guy:

Love your work on Pulse and best of luck to you.

Oh yeah. It was after reading about the Pulse Tour in the book that got me in to listening to PF. Never really bothered with them before.

Very inspiring album.

Guy, your 1960 stack knob jazz bass makes me drool every time I see it in videos or concert footage... And the story behind it makes it even cooler!

Egotistic eh?..I'm afraid I haven't lived near Waterloo since I left home, and my mum sold the house years ago..Shame really, as it's a great part of town now..

I've got a few questions I'd love to ask, but just out of a pure empathetic understanding of the endless stupid questions you must receive , I'll refrain.

I do like that stack knob Jazz though, wanna trade?

Mine even has one extra knob, I'll even throw in the original string mutes, & covers, you KNOW you want/need an extra knob.
besides that one you've got is all scratched up.
Look, no scratches here.

See I'm doing you a favor here :-) let me take that old beater off your hands, this one is a 62, a bassist of your caliber needs a newer bass, let a new wet behind the ears beginner bassist be stuck with that old outdated, stack knob technology.

If need be, I've got a few killer Squiers to fatten the offer

Lol, nah, great stuff so far Guy, keep it up and thank you for the work you've put in.
It's often expressed that musicians "owe" us something since we (the fans) buy the music.
I couldn't disagree more.
If anything, we owe all of you great musicians for the awesome stuff you've left for us to enjoy.
And if you need to be an A-hole from time to time, go for it, I'm sure you've bitten your tongue and held your words more than a few times when dealing with the public. You're only human after all.
Thanks again for your contributions to the music industry, some of us have an immense amount of respect for you guys.

I don't know Mr Pratt personally but I know a guy who knows a guy who has a cousin who was best friends with another guys sister who went to high School with Mr Pratt and said she that he was the nicest boy she's ever met so that's good enough for me.

Your funny even when your mad!

I am sorry that are you getting heckled on Twitter. Your pretty generous with your time to begin with. There is a fair amount of interviews on Youtube where you talk about several topics including your time with Pink Floyd.

As we say here on Talkbass: "People should use the search function first...".

Which is the Talkbass equivalent to the Old Testament's: "Roll your tongue seven times before speaking!".

Better luck next time.

No offence meant, just full of confidence I guess.
I love the southbank area, I spend hours just sitting watching the world go by.

I'm happy to answer anything on here, and no, I don't want to swap the stack knob, but thanks for all the kind offers!

Guy, lots of pros think bassists today spend too much time on gear and not enough on music.

When you were touring with Floyd or when your career first took off, how many basses did you own?

How many do you own now?

Let me know if you need my address so you can place it on my porch wrapped in a flight case and pink bow.
